Position Overview

The role of the Assistant Educator is crucial in fostering a secure, nurturing, and engaging educational atmosphere for children participating in the YWCA Princeton Summer Enrichment Program. This position requires the individual to exemplify positive behavior, serving as a role model for children, colleagues, and parents/guardians, in accordance with the mission of YWCA Princeton.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to all state regulations pertaining to the New Jersey Child Care Center License and uphold the mission of YWCA Princeton.
  • Facilitate children's involvement in enrichment activities, demonstrating respect towards both staff and peers, while promoting an understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity.
  • Implement child safety protocols, assist with daily setup and breakdown, warmly welcome children and parents/guardians, maintain accurate sign-in/sign-out records, and support children in respecting personal boundaries.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Educator to address group and individual behavioral matters as they arise.
  • Participate in staff orientation, training sessions, and comply with all new health and safety protocols, as well as engage in professional development and program evaluations as required.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of weekly lesson plans.
  • Be prepared to execute procedures outlined in the Emergency Plan, including fire drills and lockdowns.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Childcare & Youth Programs.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old or possess a minimum High School Diploma or equivalent life experience.
  • At least one year of experience in a field related to Art, Music, or Dance.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with children in a preschool to school-age environment (ages 4-8).
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, motivated, and personable.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours as needed, Monday through Friday.
  • Completion of a fingerprint/background check and CARI FORM prior to employment, in compliance with New Jersey State Department of Child and Family Services.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (these certifications can be obtained within 90 days of hire).
  • Alignment with the mission and values of YWCA Princeton.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
  • Able to hear and speak for effective communication in person or via telephone.
  • Visual acuity to read, prepare, and review various materials.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, or crouch as necessary.
  • Capability to sit for extended periods.
