Unit Description:
The Telemetry Medicine Observation Unit (7A) is a specialized medical/surgical telemetry unit focused on the care of cardiac patients. This dynamic 28-bed unit fosters a collaborative team environment, ideal for critical thinking and professional growth. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, while CNAs maintain a ratio of 1:12. Our unit has consistently achieved high employee satisfaction ratings over the past five years.

Key Responsibilities:
1. **Order Management:**
- Monitor and process incoming computerized or written orders promptly and accurately.
- Transcribe physician orders with precision and notify nursing staff of urgent requests.
- Clarify any ambiguous orders as necessary.

2. **Patient Interaction:**
- Serve as a welcoming presence in the unit, demonstrating cultural and age sensitivity.
- Uphold patient confidentiality at all times while engaging with patients, families, and the public.
- Respond to phone calls and call lights efficiently, ensuring accurate message relay to nursing staff.

3. **Administrative Duties:**
- Activate patients in relevant systems, obtaining necessary medical record numbers and patient identifiers.
- Prepare patient charts, identification bands, and essential documentation.
- Ensure the timely transfer of patient information and documentation as required.

4. **Record Management:**
- Prepare discharge, transfer, or demise records, ensuring all paperwork is completed accurately.
- Organize and file patient records, including face sheets, lab results, and appointment slips.

5. **Laboratory Coordination:**
- Prepare laboratory requisitions, enter orders into the system, and schedule appointments as directed.
- Maintain organized patient charts and documentation.

Qualifications:
- **Education:** High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
- **Experience:** 1-3 years of clerical or customer service experience is required.

Skills and Competencies:
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Strong mathematical and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Detail-oriented with problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to function effectively in a busy healthcare environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
