OnPoint Medical Group is seeking a dedicated Healthcare Support Specialist to become a vital part of our Internal Medicine team. Join a collaborative group of healthcare professionals as we expand our network.

With interconnected doctors, nurses, specialists, labs, and medical records, patient care is optimized.

The back office Healthcare Support Specialist assists healthcare providers (Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner) in patient examinations and treatments by performing the following duties:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Welcomes patients and prepares them for their healthcare visit by placing them in exam rooms, obtaining medical histories, and verifying their information.
  2. Accurately documents vital signs.
  3. Timely and accurately populates all sections of the electronic medical record, including allergies, medications, vaccines, social history, and quality tab.
  4. Assists providers during examinations and treatments, performing point-of-care tests as permitted by skill level, certifications, and state regulations.
  5. Maintains supplies in storage areas and exam rooms.
  6. Cleans and disinfects treatment rooms following patient examinations; ensures a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by adhering to established standards and legal regulations.
  7. Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, cooperative, sensitive, and respectful to all patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  8. Responsible for pre-visit planning according to standard operating procedures.
  9. Maintains logs and required checks (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, etc.).
  10. Checks and addresses voicemails multiple times throughout the workday.
  11. Addresses inbox messages in the electronic medical record for providers, provider staff, and self.
  12. Provides backup support for front office tasks as needed, including check-in, check-out, appointment scheduling, and answering phones.
  13. Maintains professional relationships with vendors supporting the practice.
  14. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines for all internal and external systems.
  15. Communicates effectively with awareness of surroundings and audience.
  16. Attends required trainings and meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited healthcare program (e.g., Medical Assistant, CNA, LPN, EMT) or equivalent work experience required.
  • Must maintain certifications per state guidelines.
  • Nationally recognized as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is strongly preferred.
  • Strong computer skills required; EMR experience preferred.
  • Some experience as a Medical Assistant required.
  • Current BLS certification.

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience in Family or Pediatrics.
  • Familiarity with Athenahealth practice management system.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Job Elements and Working Conditions:

  • Regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to walk, sit, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 20 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves more than 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary: $20 - $25 / hour.
