POSITION SUMMARY:

The role involves providing leadership and direction to the Union Labor Workforce (ILA). The individual will assist in formulating daily operational schedules and will oversee team members to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely service delivery, effective inventory management, and a swift response to client inquiries. Training of team members in facility and organizational policies and procedures is also a key responsibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains oversight of all operational facets while fostering effective communication among management, supervisory staff, and all production and support teams.
  • Identifies training needs and guarantees that all personnel have the necessary technical job skills and a clear understanding of their roles, responsibilities, and performance objectives.
  • Organizes and allocates personnel to ensure the formation of efficient work teams, initiating cross-training to meet productivity targets.
  • Ensures accurate documentation and record-keeping regarding associate performance, safety, and other relevant metrics.
  • Guarantees adherence to safety, sanitation, and security protocols.
  • Initiates work orders and reports on maintenance requirements for equipment and facilities.
  • Collaborates with the Port Captain and/or Cargo Officer regarding stowage, loading, and unloading operations.
  • Conducts ongoing visual inspections of loading and unloading equipment to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • As part of the management team, undertakes various additional projects or tasks as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in supervising associates across various cargo types, particularly breakbulk.
  • Knowledge of specialized rigging and cargo handling equipment.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Proven safety record.
  • Able to train new staff effectively.
  • Skilled in motivating and enhancing team morale.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and hold team members accountable for their performance and outcomes.
  • Experience in warehouse operations and stevedoring.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with an acceptable three-year driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, handle objects, reach with hands and arms, and engage in writing, talking, typing, and listening. Occasionally required to sit, stoop, bend, or kneel and lift or move up to 35 lbs. The role typically involves working in a warehouse or outdoor setting, with occasional office environment duties.
