Position: Substance Abuse Counselor 1 in New York State

The Substance Abuse Counselor 1 position necessitates current registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) or one of its advanced levels. Candidates must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full participation in Medicaid and Medicare programs.

As a Substance Abuse Counselor 1, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team, delivering care and counseling to clients under the oversight of a senior counselor or Licensed Master Social Worker.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Acts as the primary counselor for designated patient groups, overseeing all clinical services and direct care.
  • Facilitates individual and group therapy sessions, organizes recreational activities, and leads social events.
  • Conducts patient interviews, reviews medical histories, and completes assessments for treatment planning.
  • Monitors patient progress towards established treatment goals.
  • Completes necessary documentation in compliance with applicable procedures and confidentiality regulations.
  • Provides crisis intervention and maintains connections with community agencies for client rehabilitation.
  • Conducts rounds, ensures a safe environment, and assists in patient transport.
  • Aids in meal preparation, communicates shift updates, and performs other assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications:

The Addictions Treatment Center employs a computerized patient record system, and background checks are mandatory for all prospective candidates.
