Essential Qualifications for Psychologist Trainee 1:

Substitutions:
A doctoral degree in a clinical psychology field and one year of relevant experience may substitute for both the educational and experiential requirements stated above.

A certificate of advanced study in a clinical psychology or school psychology field may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Examples of qualifying degree programs include but are not limited to: clinical psychology, clinical forensic psychology, community psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology, and child psychology.

Examples of non-qualifying degree programs include but are not limited to: education, counseling, clinical counseling, clinical hypnosis, community counseling, educational counseling, forensic counseling, guidance counseling, human relations, marriage and family counseling, professional counseling, rehabilitative counseling, school counseling, student and personnel services, mental health counseling, psychological counseling, pastoral psychology, transpersonal psychology, neuroscience, experimental psychology, industrial psychology, and organizational psychology.
*Note: Qualifying experience includes direct interaction with individuals, families, or groups in various settings such as hospitals, psychiatric facilities, community mental health clinics, correctional institutions, and educational environments, under the supervision of licensed professionals.
To be considered qualifying, primary duties must involve activities such as administering assessments for diagnostic evaluations, developing treatment plans, and providing psychological counseling in areas such as:
mental and/or emotional disorders, cognitive disorders, behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, substance abuse disorders, and forensic mental health.
Note:
Non-qualifying experience includes but is not limited to research psychology, industrial psychology, organizational psychology, health psychology, and guidance counseling.
A practicum, externship, or clinical fieldwork assignment must provide direct clinical experience in a recognized setting and be part of a qualifying master's program.
Appointments may also be made at the Psychology Trainee 1 levels.Candidates hired at the entry-level title (Psychology Trainee 1) may be advanced to the full-performance level (Psychologist 1) following satisfactory completion of two years of service.
Duties Description- Deliver professional psychological services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist or qualified clinician;
- Develop and document behavioral/treatment plans and conduct functional assessments;
- Design, administer, score, and interpret psychological tests;
- Analyze behavioral data and maintain progress notes;
- Conduct psychological evaluations;
- Collaborate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and participate in case review meetings;
- Facilitate individual, family, and group counseling sessions;
- Prepare reports and maintain comprehensive records.
Additional Information:
This position is part of a statewide program that allows for non-competitive appointments.
This means that applicants do not need to take an exam to qualify, but must meet the minimum qualifications for the title.
At a future date, employees hired under this program are expected to transition to permanent competitive status without the need for an exam.
Salary range encompasses the hiring rate of a Psychology Trainee 1 through the job rate of a Psychologist 2.
Compensation:
Psychology Trainee 1: $68,401
Psychology Trainee 2: $70,633
Psychologist 1: $79,250-$99,573
Psychologist 2: $87,556 - $109,854
- Current state employees in a permanent competitive qualifying title may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.
- Candidates must be reachable for appointment from the current Civil Service eligible list.
- Preference will be given to employees impacted by closures.
- All employees must maintain eligibility for participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs.
- Employees may be eligible for loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
- Employees on long-term leave can apply for positions but must be able to report to work within fourteen days.
