Overview

HeartShare Human Services of New York is seeking a Licensed Clinical Counselor to join our dedicated team.

The Licensed Clinical Counselor will deliver culturally sensitive and trauma-informed therapeutic services (individual sessions) adhering to the highest professional standards and best practices for youth and children in care.

This role will focus on providing support to older youth in our specialized healing environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individual therapy to a designated caseload of children and youth in residential settings;
  • Provide counseling to individuals and families addressing psychological or emotional challenges such as substance use, self-regulation, or family dynamics;
  • Assist youth in developing skills aligned with their permanency and treatment objectives;
  • Offer emotional and behavioral support, emphasizing healing and permanence;
  • Conduct individual therapy, substance use counseling, trauma-informed therapy, family and group therapy, and transitional support;
  • Facilitate integration with community resources and promote skill development;
  • Provide psycho-education and wellness training as required;
  • Collaborate with families, case planning teams, and medical professionals;
  • Maintain communication with collateral resources as necessary, including referral sources and educational institutions;
  • Clarify behavioral functions to group and foster home staff;
  • Implement evidence-based behavioral health strategies in interventions;
  • Structure interventions to comprehend maladaptive behaviors and enhance developmentally appropriate responses;
  • Conduct client interviews to gather mental health histories and relevant information;
  • Observe clients to gain insights into their behaviors;
  • Provide individualized and holistic therapeutic interventions;
  • Discuss progress towards treatment goals with clients, focusing on self-regulation and awareness;
  • Consult with medical professionals regarding treatment plans and make necessary adjustments;
  • Engage in outreach and retention efforts with clients;
  • Complete all required documentation, including session notes, treatment plans, and psychosocial summaries;
  • Refer clients to additional supportive services to enhance therapy and permanency plans;
  • Ensure all therapists complete necessary background checks prior to direct engagement with children;
  • Complete mandated reporter training;
  • Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and guidance.

Qualifications:

  • Mental Health Counselor Limited Permit (clinical hours provided for MHC-LP only), or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Master of Social Work (LCSW), or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
  • Preferred two (2) years of experience providing clinical services in a mental health or residential environment for youth;
  • Experience working with youth and children who have experienced trauma;
  • Proficiency in multiple languages is preferred;
  • Competence in using computer software applications, including Microsoft Office;
  • A clean New York State Driver's License is preferred;
  • Familiarity with Medicaid billing is preferred;
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
