POSITION SUMMARY:

The Domestic Violence Specialist plays a vital role within the Domestic Violence services team, focusing on community education, crisis intervention, case management, and trauma recovery support. This role involves assisting the Domestic Violence Coordinator in organizing and leading structured workshops and training sessions for clients and healthcare providers, as well as establishing partnerships with community organizations and medical providers.

The Domestic Violence Specialist is tasked with delivering case management, patient navigation, and referral services for survivors of domestic violence. Responsibilities include conducting intake and screening, safety planning, providing sexual and reproductive health education, and facilitating access to services for all program participants. The role primarily operates within a standard Monday to Friday schedule, with some flexibility required for evening and weekend events, given prior notice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate workshops for clients on domestic violence, women's health, and empowerment.
  • Provide training for healthcare professionals on recognizing signs of abuse and appropriate referral processes.
  • Conduct foundational domestic violence training for community organizations and medical providers.
  • Deliver education on domestic violence and sexual health to affected individuals.
  • Perform initial intake, safety planning, and risk assessments.
  • Assess clients' immediate needs and develop service plans accordingly.
  • Offer information, referrals, and advocacy for clients.
  • Connect clients with relevant services through on-site and off-site Family Justice Center partners.
  • Coordinate appointments with on-site and off-site partners.
  • Ensure clients are linked to primary care and sexual health services.
  • Maintain documentation of client interactions in designated databases.
  • Accompany clients as needed to facilitate successful engagement in care.
  • Assist the Domestic Violence counselor in preparing and leading group sessions.
  • Provide case management services as required.
  • Coordinate services that integrate substance abuse treatment, mental health, and other recovery support for all participants.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, departmental meetings, training sessions, and contractor-facilitated provider meetings.
  • Foster domestic violence community partnerships throughout Staten Island.
  • Align all activities with CHASI's mission, core values, and organizational culture.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations who have experienced trauma, demonstrating the ability to engage and serve the domestic violence community from a trauma-informed perspective.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; some college education or a degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience in trauma-informed care and case management is strongly preferred, particularly with survivors of domestic or intimate partner violence.
  • Experience in facilitating educational workshops and presentations.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team, fostering a healthy work environment that promotes equity, professionalism, respect, diversity, and continuous professional development.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capacity to adapt to multiple and changing priorities.

We strongly encourage applications from people of color, LGBTQ individuals, women, and people with disabilities.
