Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. is actively seeking a Crop Insurance Claims Adjuster I to become a part of our esteemed Rural Community Insurance Services (RCIS) division. As a prominent provider of crop insurance across the United States, RCIS extends its services through a vast network of approximately 3,600 licensed agents, ensuring comprehensive coverage in all 50 states. Our offerings include a variety of private product coverages, encompassing named-peril options, supplemental and stand-alone insurance products, as well as federal crop insurance plans facilitated by the United States Department of Agriculture's Risk Management Agency. Position Overview: This role is designed for a candidate based in Virginia, operating from a home office. The position entails a commitment of 40 hours per week, with an expected travel requirement of around 50% to effectively cover the designated territory.

Ideal Candidate Profile: The successful applicant should reside in and provide services to the following Virginia counties: Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Greensville, Sussex, South-Hampton, Surry, Isle of Wight, and/or Suffolk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field inspections with minimal oversight, which includes interpreting maps and aerial imagery, measuring agricultural fields and storage facilities, and discussing crop loss findings with farmers on complex claims.
  • Effectively communicate intricate regulations and interpretations to claimants, agents, and industry professionals regarding claim situations.
  • Gather factual information concerning crop damage, document findings, and relay loss information to accurately assess potential indemnities.
  • Utilize applicable laws to establish fundamental principles of negligence while gathering relevant facts.
  • Perform reviews and audits of claims managed by junior adjusters as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with legal standards by maintaining a robust understanding of regulatory and company policies.
  • Contribute to team objectives by achieving related results and participating in projects as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, along with a minimum of 6 months of experience in the agricultural sector.
  • Certification in the Crop Adjuster Proficiency Program (CAPP) is required within 180 days of hire.
  • Possession of reliable personal transportation and willingness to travel within the assigned territory.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Physical capabilities to walk in agricultural fields up to 3 miles, climb storage bins up to 25 feet, and lift weights ranging from 25 lbs. to 50 lbs., while working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Prior experience as a Crop Claims Field Adjuster.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
