About the Role

Burns & McDonnell, a leading engineering, architecture, construction, and environmental services company, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer to join its Oil, Gas & Chemical global practice in Houston, TX.

Job Summary

The Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical designs according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs. This role requires a strong technical background in mechanical engineering, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Lead the project team from the conceptual phase through design completion, ensuring that project needs and requirements are met.
  • Technical Expertise: Specialize in leading multiple Mechanical personnel in an EPC project environment in the Oil, Gas & Chemical industry, preparing and reviewing Mechanical engineering discipline deliverables.
  • Design and Development: Apply specialist knowledge of commonly used mechanical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry, finding non-standard design solutions.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Interface and coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines to meet project design requirements, effectively managing the internal flow of data and design changes.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform inter-discipline engineering document reviews, such as P&IDs, and provide field installation support for client and construction personnel.
  • Mentorship and Development: Provide mentoring of personnel and additional responsibilities such as overseeing execution of activities performed by less experienced engineers.
  • Business Development: Participate in sales and marketing efforts, lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve financial performance targets.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and present project labor hour budgets and equipment cost estimates, report Mechanical discipline progress.
  • Procurement and Vendor Management: Prepare technical bid & purchase documents based on process datasheets, client specifications, and industry codes and standards, review vendor equipment bids and prepare technical bid evaluations.
  • Quality Control: Review vendor drawings and other documentation, regularly meet, correspond, and coordinate with equipment vendors, adhere to QA/QC process.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies, effective communication with other engineering disciplines, Procurement, Supplier Quality, and Construction.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program, or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Experience: 7 years of mechanical engineering experience with Oil, Gas and Chemical EPC projects.
  • Professional Certification: Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent written & verbal communication skills, strong analytical and critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a problem-solving environment, strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, and organization.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with design codes and standards such as API, PIP, and ASME, experience with leading the Mechanical discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
  • Travel: Ability to travel, must possess or be eligible for TWIC.
