Job Overview

Position Summary: This role is essential for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in facilities used by the public. The Night Custodian is responsible for ensuring that all areas are clean, safe, and welcoming for visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute cleaning and sanitation tasks in designated facilities, ensuring restrooms are stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Organize and manage janitorial supplies and equipment, making recommendations for purchases as needed.
  • Assess cleaning requirements and adjust the sanitation schedule accordingly.
  • Provide guidance and support to newly hired custodial staff.
  • Maintain pool areas by sweeping and power washing as necessary.
  • Monitor facilities for maintenance needs, performing routine tasks such as unclogging sinks and toilets, and submitting repair requests when needed.
  • Care for flooring through stripping, waxing, polishing, and buffing as required.
  • Address and report incidents of graffiti and vandalism.
  • Set up and rearrange furniture for classrooms and meeting spaces, including the setup and takedown of equipment.

Work Schedule:
Benefited Positions:
5 days per week - Shifts available from 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM and 10:30 PM to 3:30 AM (25 hours/week)
Non-Benefited Positions:
Not Available
Includes weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Note: This position offers a 5% shift differential for compensation.

Qualifications:

Essential Knowledge:

  • Understanding of cleaning and sanitation standards in public facilities.
  • Familiarity with common cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Knowledge of standard custodial practices, safety protocols, and basic building maintenance.
  • Customer service principles and practices.
  • Safe handling and application of cleaning agents.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
  • Capability to follow directions and complete tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple cleaning duties in a dynamic environment.
  • Awareness of occupational hazards and adherence to safety precautions.
  • Attention to detail and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and maintain positive relationships with staff and the public.

Education and Experience:

1. High school diploma or equivalent; AND

2. Previous experience in janitorial or custodial roles is preferred; OR

3. A combination of education, experience, and training that meets the requirements.

Additional Requirements:

This position may necessitate travel to various sites during the workday, which can be accomplished by personal vehicle or other means. If using a personal vehicle, a valid driver's license is required within 30 days, along with an acceptable driving history as per district policy. Not having a driver's license or having a poor driving record does not disqualify candidates from this position.

Supervision:

This role operates under the general supervision of the Custodian Supervisor, who assigns tasks. Work is generally performed independently, with decisions reviewed prior to implementation.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Potential exposure to moving equipment, dust, fumes, and hazardous materials.
  • Physical demands include climbing, lifting, and sustained periods of standing or walking.
  • Safety equipment is provided, including gloves and masks.
