About the Role:

The Bend Metro and Park Recreation District is seeking qualified individuals to lead engaging water exercise classes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts designated classes, programs, and activities.
  • Designs, organizes, and executes lesson plans aligned with overall program goals and standards.
  • Adapts exercises as necessary to accommodate participants' needs.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of all participants during sessions.
  • Supports participants in reaching their personal fitness objectives.
  • Builds positive relationships with participants and addresses their inquiries and concerns.
  • Collaborates with program coordinators and management to plan and schedule classes and sessions.
  • Communicates effectively with staff regarding facility schedules, equipment, and supply requirements.
  • Performs pre- and post-class duties, including setup and cleanup as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation.
  • Addresses safety and cleanliness issues related to the program.
  • Facilitates the inclusion of participants with special needs.
  • Manages incidents according to established protocols.
  • Acts as a mandatory reporter for any incidents of child abuse or neglect.
  • Completes additional tasks as assigned.

Work Schedule:

Shifts will primarily occur in the afternoons and evenings.

Qualifications for Success:

Essential Knowledge:

  • Understanding of exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, and contemporary best practices in fitness training.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to lead diverse fitness classes using various techniques and formats.
  • Capable of instructing individuals of different ages and fitness levels.
  • Effective communication skills tailored to various audiences.
  • Strong planning, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Positive and motivating demeanor while training.
  • Physical capability to perform job-related duties.
  • Competence in the specialized area of fitness instruction.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver lessons effectively.
  • Professional handling of disruptions and customer service issues.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies as they arise.
  • Collaborative mindset to foster positive relationships with staff and participants.

Experience and Training Requirements:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent; relevant college coursework or vocational training preferred; AND
  2. Two years of professional experience in a related specialty; OR
  3. A combination of experience and training that meets the requirements.
  4. Prior teaching experience is preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position typically does not involve supervisory duties.

Working Environment:

The work schedule is flexible and may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Attendance is required for short shifts, and the role involves physical activity, including walking, bending, lifting, and kneeling. The work environment can be physically demanding and requires frequent use of voice. Job stress may arise from managing crowds and addressing participant concerns.
