About the Role:

The Bend Metro and Park Recreation District is seeking skilled Fitness Instructors specializing in Water Exercise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engaging and safe group water exercise sessions.
  • Design, organize, and execute lesson plans aligned with program goals.
  • Adapt classes to meet the diverse needs of participants.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants throughout the sessions.
  • Assist individuals in reaching their personal fitness objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with participants and address their inquiries and concerns.
  • Collaborate with the Fitness Program Coordinator and other staff to schedule and develop classes.
  • Maintain communication regarding facility logistics, schedules, and equipment requirements.
  • Complete necessary setup and cleanup tasks before and after classes.
  • Keep accurate records and documentation as required.
  • Address safety and cleanliness issues related to the program.
  • Facilitate the inclusion of participants with special needs.
  • Manage incidents and accidents in accordance with established protocols.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:

Shifts: Afternoon and evening availability required.

Locations: Classes may be conducted at various community centers.

Qualifications:

Essential Knowledge:

  • Understanding of exercise science, anatomy, kinesiology, and contemporary fitness practices.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to lead diverse fitness classes using various techniques.
  • Capable of instructing participants of different ages and fitness levels.
  • Strong communication skills tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Exhibit a positive and encouraging attitude during training sessions.
  • Physically capable of performing job-related tasks.
  • Demonstrate expertise in specialized fitness areas.
  • Effectively prepare and deliver lessons to varied groups.
  • Handle disruptions and conflicts professionally.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and foster positive relationships.

Desired Experience & Training:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent; further education or training in a related field is preferred; AND
  2. Two years of relevant professional experience; OR
  3. A combination of experience and training that meets the requirements.
  4. Prior teaching experience is advantageous.
Supervision:

This position typically does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

Working Environment:

The work schedule is flexible, requiring availability during weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role involves physical activity, including walking, bending, lifting, and kneeling. Work is performed in a dynamic environment and may be physically demanding.
