Position Summary

The Joliet Park District is looking for a dedicated part-time Ice Arena Facility Attendant/Zamboni Driver. Under the supervision of the Ice Arena Superintendent, this role is crucial in maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors engaging in recreational activities at the facility. Responsibilities include overseeing the ice rink and lobby, performing ice resurfacing, janitorial tasks, and managing all mechanical and power supply areas to ensure the ice-skating rink operates efficiently and safely.

  • Oversee the operations and maintenance of the Ice Arena facility.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and professionalism in decision-making.
  • Efficiently resurface ice in accordance with established schedules.
  • Adhere to security protocols during opening and closing procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Ensure timely setup and breakdown of room rentals.
  • Identify and report any mechanical system failures.
  • Maintain an operational log for ice mechanical systems and related equipment.
  • Perform maintenance on the Zamboni, ice arena glass, dasher boards, and the facility itself.
  • Conduct cleaning duties for all flooring and glass within the Ice Arena.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the Ice Arena Superintendent, which may include snow removal, salting pathways, and maintaining cleanliness around the facility.

Work Schedule

This position requires availability during days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Supervisory Duties

No supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This role is primarily conducted indoors and on the ice rink, with a consistently cold environment.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Must be capable of working long hours, often standing. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds. Frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 pounds is required. The role may involve moderately to heavily physically intensive tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, and substantial movements of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.

Additional Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid US driver's license. A minimum of 1 year of experience in ice arena maintenance and Zamboni operation is preferred. Familiarity with ice arena operations and a thorough understanding of facility management and maintenance of ice-making equipment is advantageous.
