Ice Arena Operations Manager

FLSA Classification: Exempt, Full Time
Salary Range: $60,000 + DOQ

Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Ice Arena Operations Manager is tasked with managing all daily functions related to facility activities and programs. This includes overseeing service contracts, projects, mechanical systems, chemical management, and ensuring the safety of the building.
Key Responsibilities

- Establish and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for the Ice Arena to avoid premature system failures.
- Supervise the operation and performance of HVAC systems for the Ice Arena and administrative offices.
- Maintain comprehensive historical records related to the facility, particularly concerning equipment and systems.
- Provide ongoing training and guidance to Ice Arena staff, ensuring adherence to all park policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular evaluations of staff performance through both verbal and written feedback, contributing to annual assessments.
- Approve payroll for all Ice Arena personnel using designated park district software.
- Prepare and submit the Ice Arena budget for approval.
- Continuously monitor revenues and expenditures, reporting any discrepancies to the Director of Operations.
- Collaborate with the Skating Supervisor to coordinate ice skating programs and events.
- Ensure equitable distribution of ice time among user groups, maintaining open communication with all ice users.
- Oversee the ice schedule to maximize usage, utilizing park district software.
- Manage purchasing and billing processes for all aspects of the ice arena as directed.
- Work with the Ice Skating Supervisor to input programs into park district software.
- Coordinate with the Communications Department and Ice Skating Supervisor for marketing and promotional activities for the Ice Arena.
- Attend relevant District staff meetings and relay pertinent information to appropriate personnel.
- Responsible for ice maintenance tasks, including operating a Zamboni.
Work Schedule
Full-time, exempt position. May require availability during days, evenings, holidays, and weekends.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervision of Ice Arena staff.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and equipment, in elevated locations, and may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and high noise levels, in addition to an office environment and cold temperatures in the Ice Arena.

Must be capable of working extended hours, often while standing. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds. Frequently required to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, which may include climbing, balancing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and repetitive motions. Ability to operate Park District vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in Facility Management, Park & Recreation, or a related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory role.
Additional Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
- Valid driver's license.
- Proven ability to draft, edit, and produce written contracts for user groups.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and their overall functionality.
