Position Overview

Classification: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Compensation: $14 - $18 per hour, based on qualifications

Reporting To: Ice Arena Superintendent

Summary

The Joliet Park District is in search of a dedicated part-time Ice Rink Operations Specialist. This role involves overseeing the ice rink and lobby to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors. The specialist will be responsible for ice resurfacing, general maintenance, and monitoring all mechanical systems to maintain optimal rink operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations and safety of the ice rink facility.
  • Utilize sound judgment in decision-making processes.
  • Perform ice resurfacing in a timely and safe manner according to established schedules.
  • Adhere to security protocols during opening and closing procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Manage the setup and breakdown of room rentals efficiently.
  • Identify and report any mechanical issues promptly.
  • Maintain a detailed log of mechanical operations and equipment usage.
  • Conduct maintenance on the Zamboni, rink glass, dasher boards, and overall facility.
  • Execute cleaning duties for all surfaces within the ice arena.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Ice Arena Superintendent, which may include snow removal and maintaining the cleanliness of the surrounding grounds.

Work Schedule

This position requires flexibility to work during days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Supervisory Role

No supervisory responsibilities are associated with this position.

Work Environment

The majority of work will be conducted indoors, primarily on the ice rink, where temperatures are consistently cold.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

Must be capable of working extended hours, often while standing. The role requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds and to carry, push, or pull equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds occasionally. Frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 pounds is expected. The position may involve moderately to heavily physically demanding tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, and substantial movements of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid US driver's license. A minimum of one year of experience in ice arena maintenance and Zamboni operation is preferred. Familiarity with ice arena operations and a thorough understanding of facility management and maintenance of ice-making equipment are also preferred.
