Summary of Position

The Houseman is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of public areas and guestroom spaces within the hotel. This role is vital to maintaining a welcoming environment for all guests.

  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and may change at management's discretion:
  • Maintains cleanliness of entry floors through sweeping and mopping;
  • Ensures entry glass doors are spotless;
  • Dusts and cleans baseboards, ceiling, and floor vents;
  • Disposes of ash urns, cigarette butts, and trash;
  • Empties and cleans trash receptacles thoroughly;
  • Vacuums stairways and hallway carpets and dusts stairway rails;
  • Cleans hall doors and windows, wiping down sills;
  • Inspects hallways for marks and smudges, cleaning as necessary;
  • Dusts and cleans hallway furnishings;
  • Maintains cleanliness of guestroom area elevators, including thresholds and tracks;
  • Cleans and mops refreshment areas;
  • Checks and empties Housekeepers' vacuum cleaners;
  • Collects dirty linen and trash from Housekeepers' carts;
  • Keeps supply closets organized and stocked;
  • Replaces soiled or wet floor mats;
  • Obtains supplies from purchasing, assists with moving heavy furniture for Housekeepers, and strips rooms on busy check-out days as needed;
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  1. Education and/or Experience Requirements

  • Ability to read and write at an 8th-grade level or possess six months to one year of job-related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be preferred; bicultural experience is a plus.
