Associate Deputy Commissioner

The City of New York seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Associate Deputy Commissioner of Bridge Maintenance and Operations in the Division of Bridges. This key leadership role requires a strong background in engineering, management, and public safety.
Key Responsibilities- Provide executive direction for the engineering and public safety assessments, bridge flags, repair, inspection, and preventive maintenance of the city's network of elevated structures and tunnels.
- Direct the development of policies and procedures for the engineering and public safety assessment of flagged conditions, the determination of flag priority, and the allocation of repair work to contractors and in-house forces.
- Maintain the bridge inventory database, in coordination with NYS, and recommend scopes for future capital projects.
- Provide executive direction for the provision of an adequate and coordinated response to structural failures and other emergency conditions 24/7.
- Ensure the swift and efficient deployment of manpower and material resources.
- Have authority to close lanes and bridges.
- Order night and weekend work as needed.
- Oversee inspection and measurements to issue postings for load limits and vertical clearances.
- Ascertain whether bridge conditions meet the requirements of public safety.
- Oversee the review of all capital plans for reconstruction and rehabilitation to ensure the ability of maintenance forces to maintain the structure in a State of Good Repair for the duration of the anticipated life.
- Monitor conformance with all applicable safety standards and oversee the coordination of repair activities with federal, state, and city agencies.
- Integrate Bridges projects with Agency initiatives.
- Represent the agency with external stakeholders.
- Recruit and retain a diverse workforce.
- A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer.
- Six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work.
- At least two (2) years of experience in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
