Administrative Deputy Commissioner Position

The City of New York is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as the Deputy Commissioner of Administration. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the assignment and management of uniformed personnel, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring the effective operation of the Department's administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and oversee a Roster Management Unit to monitor staff assignments, status, and scheduling in all facilities.
- Implement policies and procedures to evaluate staff outages and staff placed on modified duty.
- Create an assignment classification system to ensure all staff are appropriately deployed throughout each facility.
- Work with the Deputy Commissioner of Legal Matters and the Nunez monitor to meet the requirements of the consent judgment and associated court orders.
- Develop a plan to periodically re-evaluate staff employment status.
- Collaborate with the SDC, the Deputy Commissioner of Investigation, and the Deputy Commissioner of Trials to develop a plan to provide the Department with the necessary resources to address any potential discipline.
- Provide periodic review of facility-based personnel office operations, including the reconciliation of tables of organization with actual personnel placement schedules.
- Develop a revised post analysis that is rooted in correctional best practices.
- Oversee the agency's initiative to civilianize certain posts across the Department.
- A Master's Degree in Public Administration, Personnel Administration, Business Administration, Human Services, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Psychology, or an equivalent/related field, plus five years of satisfactory experience in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity.
- Or a baccalaureate degree with a major in one of the above fields, plus seven years of satisfactory experience in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity.
- Or a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent and eleven years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience in an administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory capacity.
