Lead Manufacturing Engineer

Position Summary
In this advanced role, the successful applicant will provide manufacturing engineering solutions specifically in CNC machining by leveraging established customer practices. A solid understanding of SMED, external setup, quick-change tooling, and cutting tool kitting processes is essential to maximize production efficiency. The individual will also contribute to the development of an automated deburring program aimed at reducing manual deburring time.
The role includes utilizing a validated Blade IBRs machining process as a framework for similar components, which encompasses processing, FAI, PFMEA, and leading to necessary approvals and implementation. The candidate will engage with engineering drawings, specifications, and procedures, offering technical support to troubleshoot and resolve issues for clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Comprehend the customer engineering strategy and proven processes that minimize variations.
- Demonstrate strong decision-making skills in the preparation of CNC and CMM programs.
- Develop characteristic matrices and identify feature-based severity and key process variables (KPC/KPV).
- Interpret GD&T from both model-based definitions (MBD) and traditional 2D drawings.
- Read and understand specifications and standards relevant to Aerospace manufacturing.
- Possess a thorough understanding of key processes, control methods, and inspection strategies to create and implement control and inspection plans.
- Exhibit sound knowledge in process development and approval processes leading to shop floor release.
- Support investigations of non-conformance reports and responses using established problem-solving methodologies.
- Analyze shop floor data, including RFT data, RAG charts, and six-pack analysis reports, to suggest process enhancements and foolproof methods for reducing non-conformance.
- Create charts utilizing Minitab.
- Integrate various BiQ tools with processes such as Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
- Review and approve FAIRs/LAIRs and PPAP as part of the validation process.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the APQP process.
- Understand customer requirements and draft the Statement of Work (SoW) along with technical and commercial proposals.
- Monitor, execute, and present work status against agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Manage and guide team members effectively.
Required Competencies & Skills
- Extensive knowledge of various manufacturing processes and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL).
- Proficient in reading and interpreting Engineering & Manufacturing Drawings.
- Strong understanding of GD&T standards (ASME Y 14.5, JES 161).
- Knowledgeable in Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
- Hands-on experience with all types of measuring and testing equipment, both contact and non-contact, analog and digital.
- Able to support root cause analysis and implement problem-solving techniques such as 8D.
- Familiar with time studies, OEE, factory layout within Industrial Engineering, and CAPEX management activities.
- Experience using QC tools and SPC analysis.
- Hands-on experience working in cross-functional teams for PFMEA and control plan creation.
- Knowledgeable about concessions, containment procedures, and traceability techniques.
- Experience with FAIR, LAIR, APQP, and PPAP processes.
- Awareness of aerospace requirements (AS9100, various ISO standards).
- A minimum of 10 years of experience and a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
