This role is situated within a National Labor Relations Board Field Office, which serves as the operational branch of the Agency, facilitating the connection between the Board, the General Counsel, and the public.
The selected candidate will engage in developmental tasks aimed at enhancing their expertise and competencies, progressing towards the full performance level of GS-318-09, SPD0361.
Eligibility Criteria
- Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL)
Federal employees classified as "surplus" or "displaced". - Internal to an agency
Current federal employees within this agency.
This position is available to current NLRB Employees in the Competitive Service, as well as CTAP and ICTAP employees.
Key Responsibilities
As an Administrative Assistant (OA) GS-0318-8/9, your primary duties may encompass:
- Gathering and interpreting various charts, tables, statistical reports, and other data pertinent to Regional Office operations for staff utilization.
- Managing the Director's schedule, coordinating appointments, prioritizing tasks, and arranging travel logistics.
- Welcoming visitors and directing internal, external, and long-distance phone communications.
- Evaluating outgoing correspondence from the Regional Director, ensuring adherence to established office protocols, grammatical accuracy, and appropriate information dissemination.
- U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This position is not eligible for remote work.
- Relocation expenses are not covered.
- This role is not part of the bargaining unit.
- Subject to a background investigation prior to appointment.
- This position is classified within the Competitive Service.
- A one-year probationary period may be necessary.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate for the Administrative Assistant (OA) position possesses a diverse background in performing various secretarial and administrative functions. The candidate should exhibit analytical capabilities to compile and interpret data related to the Regional Office's operations. Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities, both verbal and written, are essential. Proficiency in office automation systems and typing skills necessary for word processing tasks are required.
Minimum Qualifications:
For GS-08 Level
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the Administrative Assistant (OA) role at the GS-08 level. Specialized experience includes:
- Reviewing incoming correspondence and documents for accuracy and compliance;
- Responding to inquiries and providing general guidance regarding office activities;
- Coordinating management's calendar and travel arrangements.
For GS-09 Level
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level, showcasing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the Administrative Assistant (OA) role at the GS-09 level. Specialized experience includes:
- Monitoring and tracking incoming correspondence and communications independently;
- Coordinating outreach events and ensuring logistical arrangements are in place;
- Preparing statistical reports and relevant data for management;
- Arranging travel itineraries for management and staff.
Typing Proficiency
This position requires typing skills of at least 40 words per minute, based on a 5-minute assessment with minimal errors.
Time-in-Grade Requirement
Current and former Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements to be eligible.
