Key Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in evaluating case materials, including the collection and analysis of relevant documents, and preparing summaries of key legal decisions and opinions.
  • Draft, edit, and review non-legal documents, including correspondence and research reports.
  • Support trial preparation by organizing evidence and creating statistical charts and visual aids.
  • Conduct interviews with potential witnesses and compile summary reports of those interviews.
  • Review legal documents to verify the accuracy of citations and legal references.
  • Participate in pre-trial meetings to identify missing documents or other issues, and request additional information as needed.
  • Prepare summaries of testimonies and depositions during and after trial proceedings.
  • Investigate case facts and legal principles, and search public records to build cases and ascertain causes of action.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a Paralegal Certificate or a High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of two years of paralegal experience.
  • Experience in trial support and automated litigation processes is preferred.
  • Ability to understand the structure and functions of the organization.
  • Proficient in conducting basic legal research, including standard legal citation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, including proficiency in legal writing.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and other relevant software, including databases and legal research tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service; adaptable and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, delivering high-quality work while maintaining professionalism under pressure.

Note: This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a thorough background investigation.

The United States Attorney's Office (USAO) is the primary litigating authority for the nation, operating under the direction of the Attorney General. The Asset Forfeiture Section within the USAO is tasked with prosecuting both criminal and civil cases involving property used or acquired through illegal activities.
