Position Overview

The Human Resources Specialist plays a crucial role in implementing human resources policies and programs. This position is dedicated to fostering equity, ensuring fair treatment, and promoting positive employee relations while adhering to local, state, and federal employment regulations. The Specialist provides extensive HR support across various locations, aligning with the organization's objectives and cultivating strong relationships with colleagues. This role involves addressing complex HR challenges and requires the ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight.

This opportunity is available for both full-time and part-time candidates, with part-time roles considered for highly qualified individuals possessing relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes, collaborating with hiring managers to ensure effective candidate integration.
  • Addresses fundamental employee relations concerns and escalates intricate issues to the appropriate senior management, contributing to the execution of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to nurture an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Facilitates the onboarding process for new hires.
  • Organizes training and development programs for employees.
  • Assists managers in delivering constructive feedback to enhance employee performance.
  • Manages benefits and leave administration, including short-term disability, workers' compensation, FMLA, and personal leaves, guiding employees through the benefits process.
  • Coordinates the annual open enrollment period for employee benefits.
  • Ensures that job descriptions are up-to-date.
  • Responds to inquiries from government agencies, including Unemployment and the Department of Labor.
  • Maintains data integrity within the HR management system.
  • Safeguards confidential employee information in both electronic and physical formats.
  • Updates the employee handbook as necessary.
  • Stays informed about local, state, and federal employment laws to ensure compliance.
  • Engages with the Human Resources Committee of the Board of Directors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources; experience in the nonprofit sector is advantageous.

  • In-depth knowledge of HR laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in HR software, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions with limited supervision.
  • Cultural competence and a dedication to fostering an inclusive work environment.
  • Experience engaging with diverse populations and supporting DEI initiatives.
