Position Overview:

The Finance Director at Jackson Hole Classical Academy plays a pivotal role in steering the financial operations of the institution. This position is essential for maintaining the fiscal health and longevity of the academy by developing and managing the operational budget, supervising accounting activities, overseeing procurement processes, managing tax obligations, and liaising with external accounting services. The Finance Director collaborates closely with the leadership team to facilitate strategic financial planning and ensure optimal resource utilization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Budgeting and Financial Strategy:
  • Formulate, execute, and oversee the annual operating budget in accordance with the strategic objectives of the academy.
  • Deliver financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting to the Head of School and Board of Directors to enable informed decision-making.
  • Track and report on budget performance, identifying discrepancies and suggesting corrective measures as needed.
  • Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Accounting and Financial Oversight:
  • Supervise all fundamental accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
  • Guarantee accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly financial statements, annual audits, and adherence to accounting standards.
  • Establish internal controls to protect the academy's assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
  • Manage the procurement processes of the academy, including vendor selection, contract negotiations, and purchasing operations.
  • Tax and Compliance Management:
  • Oversee the academy's tax responsibilities, including the preparation and submission of tax returns, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws.
  • Ensure adherence to all financial reporting and regulatory requirements pertinent to non-profit educational institutions.
  • Coordination with Third-Party Services:
  • Streamline and manage the communication and oversight of the third-party service provider responsible for designated accounting tasks.
  • Ensure that the third-party service provider fulfills all contractual obligations and delivers precise, timely financial information.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related discipline is required; CPA designation is preferred.
  • Experience:
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in finance or accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
  • Experience within the education sector, particularly in K-12 institutions or non-profit organizations, is highly desirable.
  • A proven history of managing budgets, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong capabilities in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong leadership qualities, with the capacity to mentor and develop a finance team.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Must successfully pass a background check and any other screenings mandated by the school district.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and tax laws applicable to non-profit educational institutions.
