Position Overview:

The Director of Finance at Jackson Hole Classical Academy plays a pivotal role in managing the financial framework of the institution. The Director of Finance collaborates closely with the academy's leadership to facilitate strategic financial planning and optimize resource allocation.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning and Budget Management:
  • Formulate, execute, and supervise the annual operational budget in line with the academy's strategic objectives.
  • Deliver financial insights, projections, and reports to the Head of School and Board of Directors to enable informed decision-making.
  • Track and communicate budget performance, pinpointing discrepancies and suggesting corrective measures as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Accounting and Financial Oversight:
  • Manage all fundamental accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger upkeep.
  • Guarantee precise and timely financial reporting, encompassing monthly financial statements, annual audits, and adherence to accounting principles.
  • Establish internal controls to protect the academy's assets and ensure the accuracy of financial information.
  • Supervise the procurement processes, including vendor selection, contract negotiations, and purchasing activities.
  • Tax Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
  • Oversee the academy's tax obligations, including the preparation and submission of tax documents, ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal tax laws.
  • Ensure adherence to all financial reporting and regulatory standards pertinent to non-profit educational institutions.
  • Coordination with External Service Providers:
  • Streamline and manage the interaction with third-party service providers handling designated accounting responsibilities.
  • Ensure that external services fulfill all contractual commitments and provide accurate, timely financial data.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related discipline is required; CPA designation is preferred.
  • Professional Experience:
  • A minimum of 5-7 years in finance or accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
  • Experience within the educational sector, particularly in K-12 schools or non-profit organizations, is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated success in budget management, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Exceptional financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting capabilities.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritize responsibilities, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with a focus on mentoring and developing a finance team.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Must successfully complete a background check and any other assessments mandated by the academy.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and tax legislation impacting non-profit educational institutions.
