The Director of Finance collaborates closely with the leadership team to facilitate strategic financial planning and optimize resource utilization.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning and Budget Management:
  • Design, execute, and oversee the annual operational budget in accordance with the academy's strategic objectives.
  • Deliver financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting to the Head of School and Board of Directors to enable informed decision-making.
  • Track and communicate budget performance, identifying discrepancies and suggesting corrective measures as needed.
  • Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as required.
  • Accounting and Financial Oversight:
  • Supervise all fundamental accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
  • Ensure precise and timely financial reporting, encompassing monthly financial statements, annual audits, and adherence to accounting standards.
  • Establish internal controls to protect the academy's assets and guarantee the accuracy of financial information.
  • Manage the procurement process, including vendor selection, contract negotiations, and purchasing protocols.
  • Tax Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
  • Oversee the academy's tax responsibilities, including the preparation and submission of tax returns, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws.
  • Guarantee adherence to all financial reporting and regulatory standards pertinent to non-profit educational entities.
  • Coordination with External Service Providers:
  • Streamline and manage the interaction with the external service provider responsible for specific accounting functions.
  • Ensure that the external service provider fulfills all contractual obligations and provides accurate, timely financial data.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related discipline is required; CPA designation is preferred.
  • Experience:
  • A minimum of 5-7 years in finance or accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
  • Experience within the education sector, particularly in K-12 institutions or non-profit organizations, is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated success in budget management, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Exceptional financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting capabilities.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Capacity to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Robust leadership abilities, with a focus on mentoring and developing a finance team.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Must successfully complete a background check and any other assessments mandated by the school district.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and tax laws applicable to non-profit educational institutions.
