As the premier manufacturer of machine tools for small parts, Precision Tsugami specializes in CNC Swiss Type Lathes and Turning Centers, including Opposed Gang Tool Lathes, Gang/Turret Lathes, Multitasking Machines, and both Vertical and Horizontal CNC Milling Machines. These precision tools are essential for producing small components up to 38 mm in diameter, serving industries such as medical, aerospace, defense, and automotive.

Our CNC lathes utilize sliding headstock technology, also known as 'Swiss type' turning, to achieve high precision and efficiency in part production. This advanced technology allows for multiple metal cutting operations to be performed in a single setup, ensuring unparalleled speed and accuracy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Head of Engineering Applications will oversee all functions of the engineering team at Tsugami America. This role demands the ability to execute essential initiatives while leading the team towards achieving corporate goals.

Primary Duties Include:

  • Recruiting, managing, and developing direct-reporting staff.
  • Ensuring customer commitments are fulfilled as planned to guarantee complete satisfaction.
  • Managing team schedules and resources to optimize productivity and coverage.
  • Delivering exceptional customer experiences consistently.
  • Collaborating with Human Resources for strategic hiring initiatives.
  • Evaluating and enhancing process-related activities, ensuring adherence to quality measures aligned with ISO 9001 standards.
  • Taking ownership of customer-related issues and coordinating with sales and service departments for effective resolution.
  • Mentoring team members and establishing clear, measurable goals for departmental and managerial success.
  • Overseeing part processing and cycle time estimates for customer opportunities.
  • Coordinating custom demonstrations at various facilities.
  • Developing metrics to measure key performance indicators that enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Managing turnkey projects and ensuring timely and budget-compliant completion.
  • Facilitating communication across all necessary departments, including builders, distributors, end-users, and internal teams.
  • Advising the applications engineering team on projects and operations.
  • Identifying technical issues in quotation requests and ensuring accurate product descriptions.
  • Engaging with customers and sales teams on pre-sale activities, including evaluations and proposals.
  • Providing management with accurate feedback on activities, goals, performance, and training opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in Engineering Management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships within the team and beyond.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and a track record of staff development.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the machine tool industry and its technical requirements.
  • In-depth understanding of CNC machine technology and applications in a manufacturing context.
  • Familiarity with CNC controls, particularly Fanuc.
  • Solid grasp of CAD/CAM software.
  • Mechanical skills to operate CNC machine tools and related equipment for demonstrations.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry-specific machine tools and applications.
  • Strong presentation skills and professional communication abilities.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related business software.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the territory (~20%).
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Quick-thinking with sound decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and prioritization skills.
