Job Title: Director of Nursing

SKLD Whitehall is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Nursing to lead our nursing team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and services in our long-term care facility.

Job Summary:

The Director of Nursing will oversee the planning, development, and operation of the nursing department, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to prioritize responsibilities and make sound decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, direct, and supervise the activities of the nursing staff.
  • Ensure the nursing department is compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and update department policies and procedures as needed.
  • Provide consistent and sufficient staffing for patient needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in federal, state, and local agency annual surveys.
  • Review deficiencies noted by government agencies during inspections and implement corrective actions.
  • Operate the nursing department within budgetary guidelines and limitations.
  • Complete annual performance reviews of subordinate staff and provide guidance and education as needed.
  • Provide counseling and disciplinary action to subordinate staff members as needed.
  • Responsible for training and educating staff members.
  • Assure established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained at all times.
  • Report hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, and supply issues to the appropriate persons.
  • Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of patients and interact with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect, and promotes a caring environment.
  • Must answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in patient care areas.
  • Assist with new admissions, re-admissions, and transfers of patients to different rooms within the facility.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and tactfully with patients, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-services as requested.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines at all times.
Requirements:
  • Must possess a current Michigan license as a Registered Nurse and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
  • CPR Certified.
  • Two years of professional nursing experience in the long-term care setting is required, and a minimum of three years' experience in nursing administration or a comparable management position.
  • Three years' experience as a DON or similar role preferred.
  • Knowledge of CMS Federal Regulations and LARA Regulations.
  • Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of leadership, organizational ability, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of long-term care management, policies, budgeting, personnel management, and census development is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing in a long-term care setting.
  • Has strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to make presentations before top management, public groups, and staff.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
