RESOURCE SPECIALIST TEACHER

Reports to: School Principal

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instruct students with special learning needs, fostering their confidence and character while inspiring them to achieve their goals and positively impact the world.
  • Provide specialized instruction in various subject areas, including auditory and visual perceptual training, as well as fine and gross motor skill development.
  • Utilize established curricula and instructional guidelines to create lesson plans tailored to address student needs.
  • Employ diverse instructional methodologies to facilitate learning and support other instructional staff, including remedial instruction and hands-on activities.
  • Assess and analyze the backgrounds of students with learning disabilities, aiding instructional personnel in their evaluations.
  • Design and implement educational programs that cater to individual learning requirements.
  • Adapt instructional methods and delivery systems to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Ensure compliance with accommodations and modifications for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Deliver individual and group instruction aimed at addressing learning disabilities, maximizing available instructional time.
  • Implement various behavior management strategies to promote positive behavior and academic success.
  • Coordinate with the individual education program planning team.
  • Monitor and evaluate student academic, behavioral, and social development.
  • Document and communicate student progress, recommending adjustments to educational programs as necessary.
  • Administer and score assessments to evaluate student growth and achievement.
  • Engage with parents and instructional staff regarding student progress and educational program interpretations.
  • Support students in mainstream classroom settings.
  • Utilize a range of instructional techniques to accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree – required; Master's Degree - preferred.
  • Valid Commission on Teacher Credentialing certificate or equivalent documentation required for the teacher's assignment.
  • Desirable certifications include Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language or Academic Development (BCLAD), Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD), Bilingual Certificate of Competence (BCC), or Language Development Specialist (LDS); EL Authorization.
  • Passion for teaching in an urban school environment.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Proven success in working with students from underserved educational backgrounds.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This role may require frequent local travel and occasional out-of-town trips for training or workshops. The position involves working in a shared office space and regular visits to school sites. Physical demands may include lifting, carrying, and some climbing or balancing. The job typically requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing, performed under minimal temperature variations and with some exposure to potential risks.

EDUCATION:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in any field.
  • Preliminary Mild to Moderate Education Specialist Credential or Teacher Intern Credential.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Clear Mild to Moderate Education Specialist Credential.
  • Master's Degree in Special Education.

Continuing Education/Training:

As needed.

Certificates & Licenses:

Valid Driver's License.

Clearances:

Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance, TB Clearance.

Salary:

Commensurate with Experience.
