RESOURCE SPECIALIST TEACHER

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

ICEF (Inner City Education Foundation) Public Schools is a nonprofit charter school management organization dedicated to serving communities in South Los Angeles. We operate high-quality, tuition-free public charter schools at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The role of a special education teacher within the ICEF family is truly unique. REPORTS TO: School Principal

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Teach essential knowledge and skills, nurture confidence and character, and inspire passion in our students to help them achieve their goals and positively impact the world.

- Instruct students with special learning needs in various subject areas, including auditory and visual perceptual training and fine and gross motor skill development.

- Utilize an established curriculum and instructional guidelines to create lesson plans and teaching outlines aimed at addressing student needs.

- Employ a variety of specialized methodologies to provide instruction and support other instructional staff, including remedial instruction and active participation using diverse educational resources.

- Analyze and evaluate the history and background of students with learning disabilities, assisting instructional personnel in their assessments.

- Design educational programs tailored to individual learning needs and support the implementation of various educational processes.

- Individualize instructional methods and adapt delivery systems as necessary.

- Ensure compliance with accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs in both general education and special education settings.

- Provide individual and group instruction to remediate learning disabilities, effectively utilizing available instructional time.

- Implement a range of behavior management strategies, including behavior modification and positive reinforcement techniques.

- Assist in coordinating the individual education program planning team.

- Review and evaluate student academic, behavioral, and social growth.

- Record and report observations of student progress, recommending adjustments to individual educational programs as needed.

- Prepare, administer, score, and document results of standardized tests to assess student growth and progress.

- Communicate with parents and instructional staff regarding student progress and the interpretation of individual educational programs.

- Support students in mainstream classroom settings.

- Utilize diverse instructional skills and methods, adjusting instructional modes to meet student needs.

- Perform additional duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's preferred.

- Valid (internship, preliminary, or clear) Commission on Teacher Credentialing certificate or permit required for the teaching assignment.

- Possession of a Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language or Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate; a Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate; a Bilingual Certificate of Competence (BCC); or a Language Development Specialist (LDS) certificate is desirable; EL Authorization.

- A desire to teach in an urban school environment.

- Confidence in managing student behavior.

- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change effectively.

- Proven success working with students from educationally underserved areas.

- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

- Must provide documentation of eligibility to work in the US.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

Required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific competencies required to satisfactorily perform job functions include effectively leading meetings, delivering academic presentations, and exhibiting appropriate manners, including poise, tact, and good judgment. A demonstrated ability to work effectively with ICEF personnel, community representatives, parents, and students is essential.

An ideal candidate for this position is highly organized and self-motivated, capable of scheduling numerous activities, trainings, meetings, and events; gathering, collating, and classifying data; and considering various factors when making decisions. Flexibility is required to work independently with others in diverse circumstances, analyze data using defined and self-created processes, and operate job-required equipment using standardized methods. The ability to work with a diverse set of individuals and groups, handle various data, and utilize job-related equipment is necessary. Independent problem-solving skills are essential for analyzing issues and creating action plans, often requiring independent interpretation of guidelines.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Frequent local travel and occasional out-of-town travel may be required for trainings, seminars, or workshops. This position will work in a shared office space and will frequently visit school sites. Physical demands may include some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing, performed under minimal temperature variations and conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

EDUCATION:

Required:

- Bachelor's Degree in any field.

- Preliminary Mild to Moderate Education Specialist Credential or Teacher Intern Credential.

Preferred:

- Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field.

- Clear Mild to Moderate Education Specialist Credential.

- Master's Degree in Special Education.

CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING:

As needed.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:

- Valid Driver's License.

CLEARANCES:

- Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance.

- TB Clearance.

SALARY:

Commensurate with Experience.
