Job Overview

Salary: Dependent on Experience

Northwest Human Services, Inc. is a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to advocacy, quality healthcare, and social services in Marion and Polk counties since 1970. We are committed to providing compassionate and professional medical, dental, psychiatric, mental health, and wraparound services to the most vulnerable members of our community, including uninsured individuals, families, the homeless, and migrant workers. Our organization fosters a culture of equity, diverse perspectives, and life experiences, embracing innovation, collaboration, and work-life balance.

Position: Youth Development Specialist

This role is classified as On-Call. The program operates 24 hours a day, requiring availability for day, swing, and night shifts. On-Call hours and shifts will vary based on program needs. Please indicate your availability in your application.

On-Call positions offer valuable hands-on experience and the potential for future growth. As an On-Call staff member, you will be contacted when coverage is needed for open shifts. Flexibility and availability are essential, as shifts may be scheduled with less than 24 hours' notice and can include evenings, overnight, and weekends, including holidays. You will be scheduled for 1 to 3 shifts each month to maintain connection and keep your skills sharp, and you will be expected to attend regular staff meetings to engage in program development discussions, receive training, and build relationships with your colleagues. Should a part-time or full-time position become available, you will receive priority consideration for the vacancy.

Your Responsibilities:

As a Youth Development Specialist, you will work collaboratively and compassionately with unsheltered and street-oriented young adults aged 18-24. You will have the opportunity to make a significant positive impact by providing constructive interventions, referrals to supportive services, and assisting our clients in achieving their goals. This position involves direct care and supervision of youth residing in our overnight shelter. You will need to remain vigilant regarding all safety and security matters that may arise during your shift. Additionally, you will interact directly with the youth in the morning hours and provide emotional and crisis support as needed. Light cleaning and maintenance of the facility are also required. Some additional responsibilities related to service documentation and compliance monitoring are expected.

Program Overview:

The HOST program offers safety, support, and resources for at-risk and unsheltered young adults. Our Daytime Resource Center serves as a safe space where youth and young adults can access essential needs and support services. Our Transitional Living Program is a multi-phase initiative for enrolled young adults, providing access to staff and resources 24 hours a day, and working closely with Case Managers to set and achieve their health, housing, education, and employment goals.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in psychology, sociology, human development, education, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with youth or young adult populations required.
  • Experience with at-risk youth or young adults preferred.
  • Education qualification exceptions may be granted if experience requirements have been met.
  • Oregon Driver's License and proof of auto insurance are required (this position involves driving, and a motor vehicle report will be conducted prior to hire).
