Salem, Oregon, United States Northwest Human Services, Inc. Full time
Job Overview

Salary: Dependent on Experience

Northwest Human Services, Inc. is a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to providing advocacy, high-quality healthcare, and social services in Marion and Polk counties since 1970. Our mission-driven approach focuses on delivering compassionate and professional medical, dental, psychiatric, mental health, and wraparound services to those in our community who need it most, including uninsured individuals, families, the homeless, and migrant workers. As a Community Health Center, we prioritize a culture of equity, diverse perspectives, and life experiences, embracing innovation, collaboration, and work-life balance.

Position: Youth Development Specialist

This role is classified as On-Call. The program operates 24 hours a day, offering day, swing, and night shifts. The hours and shifts for On-Call staff will vary based on program requirements. Applicants should indicate their availability in their application.

On-Call positions provide an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and potential for further advancement. As an On-Call staff member, you will be contacted when coverage is needed for open shifts. Flexibility and availability are essential, as shifts may be scheduled with less than 24 hours' notice and can include evenings, overnight hours, weekends, and holidays. You will typically be scheduled for 1 to 3 shifts each month to maintain your connection with the team and keep your skills sharp. Attendance at regular staff meetings is expected to engage in program development discussions, receive training, and foster relationships with colleagues. If a part-time or full-time position becomes available, you will be given priority to fill the vacancy.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Youth Development Specialist, you will work collaboratively and compassionately with unsheltered and street-oriented young adults aged 18-24. You will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing positive interventions, referrals to supportive services, and assisting clients in achieving their goals. This role involves direct care and supervision of youth residing in our overnight shelter. You will need to remain vigilant regarding safety and security issues that may arise during your shift. Additionally, you will interact directly with the youth in the morning and provide emotional and crisis support as needed. Light cleaning and maintenance of the facility are also part of your responsibilities. Some additional tasks related to service documentation and compliance monitoring will be expected.

Program Overview:

The HOST program offers safety, support, and resources for at-risk and unsheltered young adults. Our Daytime Resource Center serves as a safe environment where youth and young adults can access essential needs and support services. Our Transitional Living Program is a multi-phase initiative for enrolled young adults, providing 24-hour access to staff and resources while working closely with Case Managers to set and achieve health, housing, education, and employment goals.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in psychology, sociology, human development, education, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience working with youth or young adult populations is required.
  • Experience with at-risk youth or young adults is preferred.
  • Exceptions to educational qualifications may be granted if experience requirements are met.
  • Oregon Driver's License and proof of auto insurance are required, as this position involves driving, and a motor vehicle report will be conducted prior to hire.

Benefits Overview:

Our organization aims to provide a comprehensive and competitive benefits program within our industry.

  • Competitive Salary
  • Comprehensive Health Plans: Dental and Vision
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Group Life Insurance: Short-Term & Long-Term Disability fully covered by the employer
