We are in search of a Mission System Architect to enhance Umbra's Mission Solutions division. This pivotal role involves crafting solutions, products, and technologies that align with the evolving needs of the U.S. Government. The Architect will innovate new mission solutions while investigating the potential applications of Umbra's existing and future on-orbit capabilities. Collaboration with Umbra's Space Systems and Software teams will be crucial. The ideal candidate is a solution-oriented innovator with a sharp technical acumen, adaptable to emerging fields, and equipped to tackle complex challenges using sound first-principles methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation of integrated space and ground solution concepts utilizing Umbra's current and future technologies, advancing toward Government-directed missions.
  • Conduct mission systems engineering, performance assessments, and use case evaluations of conceptual designs and architectural solutions for existing and prospective clients.
  • Guide the technical portfolio development across the organization, ensuring coherence between strategic goals, future mission requirements, and commercial aspirations.
  • Assist the Director of Mission Architecture in establishing a robust Modeling and Simulation capability to inform the architecture, development, and progression of Umbra's space-based systems.
  • Contribute as a key technical expert in Umbra Government Programs capture initiatives, including drafting and reviewing formal proposals.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 15% for collaboration between Umbra facilities and partner/customer locations.
  • Perform additional professional duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to conceptualize and develop the architecture and design of space-based ISR systems and comprehensive solutions to meet current and future demands.
  • Experience with initial design concepts, CONOPs development, and performance estimation.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, capable of advancing new concepts into white papers, solicitation responses, and R&D initiatives.
  • In-depth understanding of National ISR collection systems and innovative ideas on how Umbra can support critical U.S. Government missions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with clients and Umbra personnel.
  • Solid foundation in mathematics, holding a technical degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in space-based mission system design, development, and/or operations.
  • Comfortable in a dynamic and fast-paced development environment.
  • Current TS/SCI clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience collaborating with U.S. Government DoD, IC, and Civil customers, particularly NRO and USSF.
  • Significant experience with SAR, RF, and other remote sensing missions.
  • Experience in designing constellations to fulfill coverage requirements.
  • Proficiency with modeling, scripting, and analysis software such as MATLAB, Python, STK, and CST Studio Suite.
