Role Significance:
- In the capacity of a Manufacturing Specialist, you will implement 'Design for X' principles throughout the new product development lifecycle. Your responsibilities will encompass meticulous planning, experimentation, and automation, ensuring the production of various spacecraft components from initial prototypes to large-scale manufacturing. You will utilize your industrial process engineering expertise to design, validate, test, and operate an automated production system, resulting in a uniquely crafted, fully assembled spacecraft.

- Conduct trade studies, establish hardware specifications, design mechanical components using CAD software, and initiate the procurement of automated manufacturing equipment.
- Collaborate across departments with other subsystem engineers, offering DfX expertise to all product design teams.
- Oversee characterization, qualification, and acceptance testing of in-house materials, processes, and machine prototypes.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives focusing on first pass yield, cycle time reduction, product reliability, capacity enhancement, and cost efficiency.
- Provide technical support for analyzing and/or conducting failure analysis on defective production components, assemblies, and field returns.
- Evaluate product designs and existing manufacturing processes to identify risks, lead DFMEA/PFMEA reviews, and incorporate and validate critical tests utilized in manufacturing.
- Support digital manufacturing efforts by simulating production equipment digital twins and IIoT device integrations.
- Create process documentation and lead training sessions for operators on manufacturing equipment.
- Apply project management skills (scheduling, budgeting, communication) and coordinate internal and external resources to execute projects efficiently.
- A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Industrial, Mechanical, or Design Engineering or a related field, along with 3-7 years of relevant professional experience.
- Hands-on experience with various fabrication tools, including drill presses, power saws, soldering irons, and vacuum chambers.
- A solid understanding of continuous improvement methodologies such as LEAN and Six Sigma.
- Proven success in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, small-team environment with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Willingness to travel internationally up to 25% of the time.
- Certification as a Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
- Experience managing robotic or other forms of industrial automation on a production line.
- Familiarity with traceability and quality standards as dictated by AS9100.
We are redefining the design, manufacturing, and utilization of satellites, and we seek candidates with passion, extensive knowledge, and direct experience in LEO satellite component development and in-orbit activities.
