STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Overview of Job Classification:
This role is responsible for managing the daily functions of a peer mentorship initiative within veterans' courts. The position involves recruiting, training, and supervising both paid and volunteer military veteran peer mentors, with the potential to oversee up to three full-time equivalent (FTE) staff members. The coordinator also engages in individual case management for veterans involved in the justice system, tracking their progress through the court process. Adherence to established policies and procedures is crucial. The coordinator serves as the statewide authority for veteran programs, establishing statewide standards and objectives, and providing guidance to other coordinators across the judiciary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Administer and oversee the daily operations of the peer mentorship program for the Veterans Trauma Court, including planning events in alignment with the Mentor Team's fiscal year budget.
  2. Recruit, train, and manage both paid and volunteer mentors in accordance with federal and state standards for Justice for Vets and Colorado Problem Solving Courts. Assign and monitor mentor assignments.
  3. Make confidential, policy-compliant decisions regarding the collection, storage, and sharing of information and data with the VTC team and Mentor team.
  4. Facilitate positive interactions between mentors and veterans, ensuring quality control of contracted pro-social activities to maximize funding utilization.
  5. Coordinate social support, crisis intervention, transportation, and connections to community resources for veterans, developing individualized community reintegration plans from intake through alumni phases.
  6. Collaborate with the problem-solving court coordinator, judicial officers, probation officers, court personnel, and other mentor team members to provide program support services and address any concerns.
  7. Educate program and community stakeholders about available support services through presentations. Participate in state-wide meetings, conferences, and focus groups for veteran service organizations, acting as a liaison between mentor and public sector communities.
  8. Conduct routine data entry and quality reviews to maintain accurate program statistics and mentee records. Perform relevant research to compile and report information for the annual report.
  9. Provide on-call support for urgent mentor and veteran needs outside of regular business hours.
  10. Attend required training and meetings.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role may involve providing guidance and oversight to other employees. Responsibilities may include ensuring work quality, training, instructing, and assigning tasks. The work performed by most employees in this area is complex.

HUMAN COLLABORATION:
Interactions and communications may lead to recommendations regarding policy development and implementation. The role may also involve evaluating customer satisfaction, fostering cooperative relationships, and utilizing resources to enhance customer satisfaction.

Employees typically perform assignments based on their judgment, seeking supervisory assistance only when necessary. Special projects are managed with minimal oversight, and assignments may be reviewed upon completion. Performance is evaluated periodically, with a moderate impact from actions taken.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Advanced:
This position requires advanced skills and extensive knowledge of the work. The incumbent must handle complex tasks and understand intricate nuances related to the job. Recognition by peers within the organization for technical expertise is expected, with a standard impact on the organization.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
The coordinator may assist in gathering data to support recommendations for budget allocations within the functional area. Monitoring of division or program-level budgets and expenditures may also be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Equivalency:
A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.

OR

Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required formal education.

Work Related Experience:
1 to 3 years of experience in a social work-related field.

Licenses and Certifications:
None.

Physical Effort Requirements:
Sedentary work, involving exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly moving objects, including the human body. Sedentary work typically involves sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally.

Work Environment:
Generally good, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.

Work Location:
Office or similar indoor environment; outdoor environment; confined space.

Exposures:
Interactions with individuals with known violent backgrounds, substance use disorders, mental illness, or those who may be hostile or irate; potential exposure to communicable diseases.
