STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Overview of Job Classification:
This role is responsible for managing the daily functions of a peer mentorship initiative within veterans' courts. The position involves recruiting, training, and supervising both paid and volunteer military veteran peer mentors, with the potential to oversee up to three full-time equivalent (FTE) staff members. The coordinator will also engage in individual case management for veterans involved in the justice system, tracking their progress through the court process, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. This position serves as the statewide authority for veteran programs, developing overarching standards and objectives, and acting as a resource for other coordinators within the judiciary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage administrative tasks and daily operations of the peer mentorship program for the Veterans Trauma Court, including planning events in accordance with the Mentor Team's annual budget.
  2. Recruit, train, and oversee both paid and volunteer mentors, ensuring alignment with federal and state standards for Justice for Vets and Colorado Problem Solving Courts. Assign and monitor mentor activities.
  3. Make confidential, policy-compliant decisions regarding the collection, storage, and sharing of information and data with the Veterans Trauma Court team and Mentor team.
  4. Facilitate positive interactions between mentors and veterans, conducting quality assurance checks on contracted social outings to maximize funding utilization.
  5. Coordinate social support, crisis intervention, transportation, and connections to community resources as part of individualized reintegration plans from intake through alumni phases.
  6. Collaborate with problem-solving court coordinators, judicial officers, probation officers, court staff, and other mentor team members to provide program support and address any concerns.
  7. Educate program and community stakeholders about available support services, participating in state-wide meetings, conferences, and focus groups related to veteran services.
  8. Perform routine data entry and quality assurance to maintain accurate program statistics and mentee records, conducting research to compile information for annual reporting.
  9. Provide on-call support for urgent mentor and veteran needs outside of regular business hours.
  10. Attend required training and meetings, and perform additional duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may involve providing guidance and oversight to other employees, ensuring work quality, training, and assignment management. The majority of tasks performed by employees in this role are complex in nature.

Interactions may lead to recommendations regarding policy development and implementation, evaluating customer satisfaction, and fostering cooperative relationships to enhance service delivery.

Limited Direction
Employees typically execute assignments based on their judgment, seeking supervisory assistance only when necessary. Special projects are managed with minimal oversight, and assignments are reviewed upon completion, with performance evaluated periodically. The impact of actions taken is moderate.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Advanced:
This role requires advanced skills and extensive knowledge of the field. The incumbent is capable of handling complex tasks and interpreting nuanced aspects of the job, recognized for their technical expertise within the organization.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
May assist in data collection to support budget recommendations for functional areas and monitor program-level budgets and expenditures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Equivalency:
A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.

OR

Relevant work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required formal education.

Work Related Experience:
1 to 3 years of experience in a social work-related field.

Licenses and Certifications:
None required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary work, involving exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, with minimal force required frequently. This role primarily involves sitting, with walking and standing required only occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Generally free from unpleasant environmental conditions and hazards.

WORK LOCATION:
Office or similar indoor environment; outdoor environment; confined space.

EXPOSURES:
Potential interactions with individuals having known violent backgrounds, substance use disorders, mental health issues, or who may be hostile or irate; exposure to communicable diseases.
