Role Summary:
The Veterans Housing Support Specialist plays a crucial role in engaging and collaborating with landlords, providing housing consultations to veterans, and serving as the primary expert in housing-related programming. Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating connections between veterans and housing opportunities.
- Conducting outreach to recruit and retain landlords for permanent housing options.
- Assisting veterans in navigating the housing application process.
- Maintaining comprehensive housing databases and regular communication with landlords.
- Providing training and resources to veterans and staff regarding housing rights and responsibilities.
- Staying informed about best practices in affordable housing and homeless services.
Essential Duties:
- Coordinate with housing authorities to assist veterans in securing housing.
- Participate in community meetings to identify veterans in need of housing assistance.
- Act as a liaison between the organization and veteran services for case coordination.
- Conduct housing consultations and informational sessions for veterans.
- Ensure compliance with housing quality standards for veterans transitioning into housing.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least one year of direct case management experience.
- Valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly veterans.
- Familiarity with landlord-tenant relations and housing management.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Understanding of harm reduction and trauma-informed care principles.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
Working Conditions:
Regular travel within the service area is required, and the role may involve working in various environments, including shelters and community facilities.
