MISSION STATEMENT

The Judicial Department is dedicated to ensuring equitable access to justice, enhancing public safety, and reinforcing the rule of law throughout Colorado. Our courts and probation departments work collaboratively to facilitate impartial and timely dispute resolution, support families, litigants, and victims, promote client rehabilitation, and engage meaningfully with the community.

POSITION SUMMARY

This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily functions of a peer mentorship program within veterans' courts. The Coordinator will recruit, train, and supervise both paid and volunteer military veteran peer mentors, potentially overseeing up to three full-time equivalent (FTE) staff members. The position involves providing individualized case management for veterans involved in the justice system, tracking their progress through the court process, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. Additionally, the Coordinator will serve as the statewide authority for veteran programs, developing standards and objectives while acting as a resource for other Coordinators within the judiciary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage administrative tasks and daily operations of the peer mentorship program, aligning event planning with the Mentor Team's fiscal year budget.
  2. Recruit, train, and oversee both paid and volunteer mentors in accordance with federal and state standards.
  3. Make confidential and policy-compliant decisions regarding information management and data sharing with the Veterans Trauma Court team.
  4. Facilitate positive interactions between mentors and veterans, ensuring quality control of contracted pro-social activities.
  5. Coordinate social support, crisis intervention, transportation, and connections to community resources as part of individualized reintegration plans.
  6. Collaborate with problem-solving court coordinators, judicial officers, probation officers, and other team members to provide comprehensive program support.
  7. Educate community stakeholders about available support services and represent the program at state-wide veteran service organization meetings and conferences.
  8. Conduct routine data entry and quality checks to maintain accurate program statistics and mentee records.
  9. Provide on-call support for urgent mentor and veteran needs outside of regular business hours.
  10. Attend training sessions and meetings as required and perform additional duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may involve providing guidance and oversight to other employees, ensuring quality of work, training, and assignment management.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

The role requires advanced skills and extensive knowledge in the field, enabling the incumbent to handle complex tasks and navigate nuanced situations effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field is required. Relevant work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for formal education.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position involves sedentary work, with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds. The work environment is generally free from unpleasant conditions, with potential exposure to individuals with challenging backgrounds.
