Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer

Position Overview

POWER Engineers is on the lookout for an Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer to join our Power Delivery Substation Department. This role is based in our Fort Mill, South Carolina office, with the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement. However, candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance as in-office attendance will be necessary several times a week.
Key Responsibilities

The Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer will collaborate with the department to deliver high-quality results aligned with POWER's mission and values. Responsibilities include:
  • Conducting detailed designs for low to extra-high voltage substations, which encompass:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Schematics
    • Wiring diagrams
    • SCADA systems
    • Communications layouts
    • Station physical layouts
    • Sections and elevations
    • Cable and conduit plans
    • Ground grid designs
    • Foundation plans
    • Structural plans
    • Control enclosure designs
    • Lightning protection plans
    • Yard lighting plans
    • Bills of Materials
    • Site visits
  • Assisting with quality assurance and quality control for client deliverables
  • Learning and adhering to client standards and processes while working independently or as part of a team on complex designs
  • Occasional travel as required
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET) from an accredited institution, preferably with a focus on power systems
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical engineering principles
  • Proficient command of the English language with strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration
  • Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 3 months of relevant electrical engineering experience, such as internships or co-op positions
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Familiarity with electrical utility substations and substation design
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification or completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
