Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer

Position Overview

POWER Engineers is on the lookout for an Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer to join our Power Delivery Substation Department. This role is based in our Fort Mill, South Carolina office, with options for a hybrid work model. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance, as in-office attendance will be necessary several times each week.
Key Responsibilities

The Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer will collaborate with the department to deliver outcomes that align with POWER's mission and values. Responsibilities include:
  • Designing low to extra-high voltage substations, which encompasses:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Schematic layouts
    • Wiring schematics
    • SCADA systems
    • Communication frameworks
    • Physical station layouts
    • Cross-sections and elevations
    • Cable and conduit design and specifications
    • Ground grid configurations
    • Foundation and structural designs
    • Control enclosure specifications
    • Lightning protection strategies
    • Yard lighting configurations
    • Preparation of Bills of Materials
    • Conducting site visits
  • Assisting with quality assurance and quality control for client deliverables
  • Learning and adhering to client standards and processes while engaging in complex design tasks, both independently and collaboratively
  • Occasional travel as required
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET) from an accredited institution, preferably with a focus on power systems
  • Solid foundational knowledge in electrical engineering principles
  • Proficient command of the English language, with strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and clients
  • Must possess legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 3 months of relevant experience in electrical engineering, which may include internships or co-op positions
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Familiarity with electrical utility substations and substation design principles
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
