Position: Area Supervisor (Wastewater Transport)

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is seeking an Area Supervisor for Wastewater Transport to oversee the operational and maintenance activities of designated wastewater and/or water treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and instruct operational and maintenance staff as necessary.
  2. Evaluate performance to ensure compliance with safety and efficiency standards for uninterrupted wastewater and water transport and treatment services.
  3. Coordinate and engage in the operational and maintenance tasks of facilities, including chemical feed systems, grit collection systems, and sludge management.
  4. Manage the operation of treatment processing units, including settling tanks and disinfection systems.
  5. Communicate effectively with other supervisors and management regarding operational conditions and maintenance needs.
  6. Control and monitor various systems, including pumping equipment and ventilation systems.
  7. Oversee preventive maintenance and coordinate corrective actions with relevant personnel.
  8. Maintain and review operational records and data, preparing daily and weekly reports with insights and recommendations.
  9. Request necessary materials and supplies for operations and report major equipment repair needs.
  10. Conduct regular inspections to assess facility conditions and ensure compliance with operational standards.

Qualifications:

This role requires a high school diploma or GED, along with a solid understanding of the principles and methods used in the operation and maintenance of large municipal wastewater or water treatment facilities, typically acquired through 5 to 7 years of direct experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role. Successful completion of the MWRA supervisory training program may substitute for supervisory experience.

A Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Grade 4 license and a Massachusetts Wastewater Collections System IV certification are mandatory. A valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator License is also required.
