The facility located in the Boston area serves as Catalent's global Center of Excellence for spray dry dispersion and the manufacturing and packaging of Dry Powder Inhaler (DPI) capsules.

The site is equipped with advanced inhaled powder spray drying technology, alongside several commercial-scale lines for capsule filling and blister packaging.

On-site spray dryers include top-tier GEA Niro SD1, SD4, and SD7, with the latter being the largest CGMP unit of its kind for DPI in North America.


Catalent Pharma Solutions in Chelsea, MA is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of occupational health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure the utmost safety for employees across multiple locations and departments.

This role ensures that Catalent adheres to relevant federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental laws, regulations, and standards.


This is a full-time, salaried position with core hours from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to Federal and State EHS regulations while following Catalent's protocols to guarantee the safety of all onsite personnel and minimize environmental impact;
  • Assist in overseeing the site Emergency Response team, including Spill Response and First Aid responders;
  • Support the EHS Incident Investigation program by conducting root cause analyses and identifying corrective actions;
  • Aid in the development and delivery of EHS training for site personnel in accordance with regulatory and Catalent requirements;
  • Contribute to the Industrial Hygiene program, including conducting assessments, recommending engineering controls and PPE, performing audits, and providing necessary employee training;
  • Assist in managing various environmental programs onsite, such as waste management, wastewater management, and air compliance, while evaluating environmental issues to devise methods and equipment for maintaining regulatory compliance;
  • Participate in the Ergonomics Program, educating employees and conducting workstation and equipment assessments;
  • Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments relevant to tasks, departments, and the overall site, addressing areas such as chemical use, machine safeguarding, ergonomics, and material handling to mitigate risks and prevent work-related injuries and illnesses;
  • Maintain safety and security equipment and supplies, including regular inspections, calibrations, and certifications where applicable;
  • Conduct EHS audits, inspections, hazard assessments, and investigations of violations as necessary, providing recommendations based on findings;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned;

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical environment is preferred; mixed-use (office, manufacturing, and lab) experience is required
  • Certified Safety Professional certification is preferred
  • OSHA 40 and First Aid certifications are preferred
  • Waste Water Treatment Grade 2I certification is preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key regulatory requirements (e.g., DOT, Mass DEP, Hazmat/RCRA, NFPA, and OSHA regulations) and their application in laboratory and manufacturing settings, particularly in key areas such as environmental management and EHS systems

  • Ability to lead and direct teams and/or committees while managing both daily operations and project work in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to develop and deliver training for diverse audiences
  • Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly, and occasionally lift up to 15 pounds;
