Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: We are looking for a dedicated and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting foster families. This role involves the professional licensing and re-licensing of foster homes, as well as providing essential support, training, and crisis intervention to families involved in our foster care program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Deliver ongoing support services to both prospective and licensed foster families, which includes conducting regular home visits, providing on-call crisis assistance, and facilitating post-placement support to ensure a safe and stable environment for children.
  2. Lead pre-service training sessions for potential foster families and offer in-service training as required for assigned families.
  3. Conduct initial and renewal family Home Study interviews, preparing comprehensive written reports for each assigned family.
  4. Oversee the initiation of foster care family licenses and manage the annual renewal process.
  5. Participate in an on-call rotation to provide crisis support to foster families as needed.
  6. Engage in monthly team meetings focused on foster care initiatives.
  7. Meet regularly with your supervisor for face-to-face guidance and support.
  8. Take part in new family orientations and assist in the screening process for family selection.
  9. Contribute to the recruitment efforts for foster homes as directed.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall mission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

A Bachelor's Degree in social work or a related field from an accredited institution, along with a minimum of one year of experience working with children with special needs in a child welfare context. Experience in case management, adoptions, and foster care is advantageous. A Master's Degree in Social Work is preferred.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Child Welfare Certification from the Florida Certification Board is mandatory (can be obtained post-employment).
  • A valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation for job-related duties and provide proof of insurance.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Successful completion of background checks and screenings is essential.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Annual Training Requirements: The following training topics are required each year: Sexual Harassment, Blood-borne Pathogens, Workplace Safety, Confidentiality, Diversity/Cultural Competency, Child Abuse Reporting, and Crisis Prevention.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of Department of Children and Families regulations regarding child care and foster care.
  • Familiarity with childhood development and mental health processes.
  • Knowledge of reporting procedures for child abuse and neglect.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Visual acuity to operate a vehicle and read documents.
  • Auditory skills to comprehend spoken communication.
  • Frequent use of hands for various tasks.
  • Ability to articulate clearly and effectively.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Primarily office-based with travel required for home visits.
