Financial Operations Manager

Position Overview
Join a dedicated non-partisan organization focused on advancing democracy, human rights, and global collaboration. As the Financial Operations Manager, you will oversee all financial activities, ensuring accurate reporting and meticulous record-keeping while establishing essential systems. This position is crucial for maintaining compliance with regulations, donor requirements, and adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily functions of the finance team
  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and leadership to accounting personnel
  • Develop, document, and uphold effective internal control systems
  • Ensure adherence to regulations, financial standards, and donor stipulations
  • Analyze financial processes and implement enhancements for operational efficiency
  • Manage and optimize accounting software, including staff training initiatives
  • Coordinate and supervise monthly and fiscal year-end closing processes
  • Monitor and manage external grants, agreements, and funding mechanisms for compliance
  • Prepare internal financial statements, variance analyses, and reports for board meetings
  • Collaborate with auditors for grant and annual audits
  • Prepare IRS Form 990 in conjunction with external tax professionals
  • Manage cash flow, cash balances, and assist with financial forecasting
  • Maintain an up-to-date accounting policies and procedures manual
  • Supervise investment accounting and coordinate with external investment advisors
  • Monitor grant revenue recognition and account balances
  • Oversee payroll functions to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Review monthly financial reports from international offices
  • Provide guidance on accounting policies and procedures to various departments
  • Research and resolve complex financial issues
  • Assist the VP/CFO in evaluating financial reports and budgeting processes
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA or advanced degree is preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting
  • 3 years of supervisory experience is mandatory
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP is essential
  • Experience in non-profit accounting and grant management is advantageous
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial management software
  • Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and teamwork skills
  • Proactive approach to process enhancement and project management
Compensation
  • Salary range: $131,301 - $164,127
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
