The Global Engagement Team at ICMA is in search of a proactive Project Management Professional to take on the role of Assistant Program Manager (APM). The APM will play a vital role in supporting the initiatives outlined in ICMA's Global Engagement Strategy and expanding our global network. This position entails a variety of project management and administrative responsibilities. The APM will report directly to the Senior Program Manager and collaborate closely with the Program Manager, Global Communications and Marketing, and the Managing Director of Global Engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver essential administrative, financial, programmatic, project management, and operational support for the Global Engagement Team.
  • Assist the Global Engagement Committee by coordinating meetings, taking notes, and contributing to committee projects.
  • Enhance Global Engagement marketing efforts by maintaining communication with contributors and performing basic website updates.
  • Facilitate the implementation of new or revised engagement initiatives, such as peer-to-peer exchanges, fellowships, and other related efforts.
  • Coordinate with ICMA Conferences, Events, and Sponsorships (CES) regarding international registrations, including providing necessary documentation for global participants.
  • Assist in the planning of in-person meetings and exchanges.
  • Support global organizational relationship management through agreement fulfillment and renewal processes.

Qualifications for Success

  • A Bachelor’s degree in international relations, public affairs, planning, communications, or a related field.
  • Up to three years of relevant experience, which may include internships or volunteer work.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with local government or international organizations.
  • Background in Program Administration or Project Management.
  • Proficiency in a second language is advantageous.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Capability to work independently on multiple tasks and deadlines while adapting to changing priorities.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, members, and external partners in a remote work environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and Teams, along with familiarity with virtual communication and collaboration tools.
  • Experience with content management and/or project management systems.
