Job Overview

Coastal1 Credit Union, a prominent financial institution based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, is in search of a Chief Financial Officer/Senior Vice President.

Position Objective

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the Accounting Division, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and to provide timely and precise financial reporting. This position also encompasses the financial planning aspects of asset/liability management and cash management, while representing the Credit Union to regulatory bodies, auditors, and other external stakeholders concerning the financial and accounting status of the organization.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is mandatory; a master's degree in a related field is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 10 to 15 years of proven experience in the accounting sector of a credit union, financial institution, or finance company, with at least 5 years in a significant managerial role overseeing an accounting team.
  • CPA certification is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office and various banking/accounting software, along with internet research capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data, draw logical conclusions, and provide sound recommendations.
  • Extensive knowledge of State, Federal, and Compliance Banking regulatory matters.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with effective presentation capabilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically for both short-term and long-term solutions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently, showcasing excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to uphold a positive and professional image of the Credit Union.
  • Experience in handling highly confidential and potentially sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels to coordinate solutions.
  • Skill in balancing policies, procedures, and administrative requirements of the Credit Union.
  • Capacity to work independently as well as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Effectively execute all primary responsibilities as outlined above.
  2. Prepare essential reports and analytical support for management and the Board, as well as for external agencies and regulatory authorities.
  3. Oversee cash management to ensure optimal utilization of surplus funds; ensure the safekeeping of the investment portfolio and the fulfillment of delivery processes.
  4. Collaborate with external auditors and regulatory authorities in areas concerning accounting treatment and financial reporting.
  5. Manage the ProfitStar profitability software and calculate profitability for branches and the organization.
  6. Facilitate ongoing staff development and training, fostering an environment that enables each team member to reach their full potential. Introduce training and enrichment programs to maintain high levels of knowledge and capabilities, ensuring adequate cross-training to minimize disruptions during personnel shortages and peak work periods.
  7. Supervise all departmental staff through the Assistant Controller, providing guidance and support as necessary.
  8. Maintain strong relationships with vendors associated with financial applications and ensure a high level of expertise in the use of these systems.
  9. Provide innovative and insightful input to senior management regarding the overall planning and operation of the Credit Union.
  10. Actively participate as a management member of the Asset/Liability Committee.
  11. Perform additional duties as required.
