Aquatic Coordinator (Full-Time Hourly)

Position Summary

The Aquatic Coordinator at the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County is tasked with overseeing all aspects of the aquatic division. This role is pivotal in fostering a welcoming and respectful environment for all participants. The coordinator will strive to deliver a premier Aquatic Program emphasizing youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the operation and administration of all aquatic programs within the facility and the surrounding community.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor staff to ensure high-quality service and program delivery.
  • Develop and maintain an effective aquatic schedule to guarantee adequate staffing for all classes and lifeguard duties.
  • Actively engage in teaching or lifeguarding as necessary while fulfilling administrative duties.
  • Support aquatic classes on-site, ensuring positive interactions with parents and participants.
  • Conduct regular in-service training for staff to uphold safety standards and risk management protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with aquatic safety standards, including those set by the Department of Public Health.
  • Support the local swim team and ensure adherence to team policies and training structures.
  • Implement the YMCA's focus areas and character development principles within the aquatic programs.
  • Communicate effectively with members and staff through various channels to ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Encourage staff engagement and participation in departmental initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role or 1 year with increasing responsibilities.
  • Certification as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor is required and must be maintained.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effective interaction with staff and members.
  • Strong decision-making abilities related to aquatic safety and operational efficiency are necessary.

Additionally, the Aquatic Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the physical upkeep of the pool and the overall aquatic department.
