Aquatics Coordinator (Full-Time Hourly)

Position Summary

The Aquatics Coordinator at the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County is tasked with overseeing all aspects of the aquatic division. Reporting to the Senior Program Director, this role is pivotal in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants. The primary focus will be on delivering a top-tier Aquatic Program that emphasizes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the administration and execution of all aquatic programs within the facility and the surrounding community.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor staff to ensure high-quality service and safety standards.
  • Develop and manage the aquatic schedule to guarantee adequate staffing for classes and lifeguard duties.
  • Engage in teaching and lifeguarding as necessary while fulfilling administrative responsibilities.
  • Provide support during aquatic classes, ensuring a positive experience for participants and their families.
  • Conduct regular in-service training for staff to uphold safety and risk management protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with public health standards and ensure a safe aquatic environment.
  • Support the Hurricanes Swim Team by implementing training structures and policies.
  • Incorporate Character Development and YMCA core values into all aquatic programs.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and members to ensure clarity and consistency in information dissemination.
  • Encourage staff engagement and teamwork within the department.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience required; Bachelor's degree preferred with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role or 1 year with increasing responsibilities.
  • Certification as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor is mandatory.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential for interacting with staff and members.
  • Strong decision-making abilities related to aquatic safety and operational efficiency are required.

The Aquatics Coordinator is also responsible for ensuring the physical maintenance of the pool and related facilities.
