What will your role entail?

The Senior HSE Advisor position is integral to the Air Liquide North America (NAM) HSE support services team. This role emphasizes the application of HSE technical and management system expertise to provide valuable insights and recommendations to the organization. The Senior HSE Advisor operates remotely, focusing on assigned NAM business unit field operations, offering guidance and support to site and regional management on HSE service initiatives, compliance obligations, audits, accident investigations, and effective solutions. This position serves as the primary HSE liaison for external regulatory agencies.

This role includes significant travel, with approximately 50% of time spent in the field, primarily supporting operations in the Mississippi river area.

  • Facilitates HSE activities at various locations, acting as a bridge between HSE and other operational stakeholders.
  • Coordinates with other Air Liquide HSE professionals to ensure comprehensive support for field locations.
  • Provides immediate HSE assistance during emergency situations.
  • Engages in Management of Change (MOC) reviews, Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies, and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) as necessary.
  • Serves as the technical HSE expert for local Emergency Action Plans and Hazard Communication Programs.
  • Mentors and nurtures site safety champions.
  • Represents Air Liquide during inspections by regulatory agencies, including but not limited to EPA and OSHA.
  • Maintains external customer relationships, addressing moderately complex inquiries independently.
  • Provides HSE support during plant turnarounds and startup projects.
  • Facilitates root cause analysis using established industry methodologies.
  • Develops and communicates business cases for proposals and recommendations based on data-driven insights.
  • Analyzes EHS data to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Interprets and advises on the practical application of HSE procedural, technical, and regulatory standards.
  • Evaluates various HSE solutions, considering multiple perspectives to recommend optimal paths forward.
  • Conducts HSE assessments and audits to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Manages personal time and priorities effectively to meet organizational goals.
  • Leads and participates in teams to achieve HSE departmental objectives.
  • Encourages critical thinking and shared ownership of HSE responsibilities among stakeholders.
  • Communicates effectively with stakeholders, presenting key points clearly and coherently.
  • Solicits feedback from internal stakeholders on proposed solutions.
  • Oversees contractor safety management, including pre-work reviews and post-assessment evaluations.
  • Provides mentorship and technical support to fellow HSE Specialists.
  • Reviews plans and specifications for new equipment to ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards.
  • Builds strong relationships with operational and support service stakeholders to enhance HSE systems integration.
  • Actively pursues continuous improvement initiatives, employing relevant methodologies and tools.
  • Regularly assesses HSE processes to align with strategic objectives and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Contributes to the development and co-authorship of HSE standards.
Are you qualified?
  • Bachelor's degree in HSE or a related STEM field is required.
  • Candidates must possess valid employment authorization in the U.S. and will not require visa sponsorship.
  • Advanced knowledge of compliance standards and risk assessment methodologies is essential.
  • Experience with confined space entry, energy isolation, fall protection, and process safety is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications (CSP, CIH, OHST, REM, REP, etc.) are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 4 years of HSE operations experience in industrial gas, energy, manufacturing, or construction is preferred; an advanced degree may substitute for experience.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time, primarily within the Mississippi river area.
