Job Summary

The Geotechnical Laboratory Technician is a key member of our team at Fugro, responsible for ensuring the efficient and proper collection, testing, and analysis of geotechnical specimens in the field or laboratory setting. This role requires strict adherence to accepted protocols (ASTM) and the ability to accurately record observations, laboratory findings, and other data in support of engineering evaluation and client deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead by example and prioritize Quality, Health, and Safety, Security, and Environmental protection as core values, ensuring the well-being of employees, processes, customers, and communities.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in conformance with Fugro's HSE and QA systems, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Perform and compute basic soil strength and index tests with high proficiency, utilizing knowledge of various ASTM testing procedures.
  • Observe and follow all company safety rules and procedures, promoting a culture of safety and responsibility.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement of Fugro's processes, including safety programs and quality management systems, driving excellence and innovation.
  • Assist senior technicians in completing more complex testing, developing skills and expertise in geotechnical laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory facilities and assist in maintenance of test equipment, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Accurately summarize test results in report form for analysis by engineering staff, providing valuable insights and recommendations.
  • Perform clerical functions as required, meeting administrative document deadlines and ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Occasional travel to project sites to collect samples and/or travel between Fugro offices to facilitate sample transfers may be required, with the ability to travel as needed, both domestically and internationally.
  • Meet all utilization goals as determined by the Activity Center Manager or supervisor, demonstrating accountability and commitment to performance.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
  • Possess a current driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Possess the ability to obtain a valid passport for international travel.
  • 1-year experience in soil testing and testing equipment is preferred.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate degree is preferred.
  • Have knowledge of soil classification techniques.
  • Be able to utilize testing equipment, perform laboratory equipment checks and calibrations by company procedures.
  • Have good math skills.
  • Have good mechanical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with modern office methods, practices, procedures, and equipment, as well as filing systems and business letter writing, and competent in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
  • Perform heavy work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force constantly, or a moderate amount of force constantly to move objects.
